What we collect
You give us: your name, email, handle, password (stored only as a bcrypt hash, never in plain text), and anything you choose to add such as a home break, bio or profile photo. Photographers also give us the images and session metadata they upload.
We generate: which clips you have been shown, liked, saved or bought. This is what makes the feed rank your break above a stranger's. It is not sold, shared or used to build a profile of you outside ClipYA.
Stripe collects: payment details. They never touch our servers.
Location data
Session metadata includes a break name and, when the photographer supplies it, coordinates. This describes where a photograph was taken, not where you are. We strip EXIF from every image we process, so camera GPS never reaches a public file.
Using your content in ClipYA's marketing
Read this bit properly. Everything uploaded to ClipYA — photos, video, captions, and the handle it's posted under — may be used by ClipYA in its marketing and advertising. By uploading, you grant ClipYA a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, edit, crop, adapt, display and distribute that content in any medium to promote ClipYA: our website and app, app-store listings, social channels, paid and organic ads, email, beach displays, events, press and investor material. This licence continues after you delete the content or your account for material already produced or in circulation.
You keep full ownership and copyright. We credit your handle wherever the format reasonably allows. We do not sell your content to third parties or license it to another brand for that brand's own advertising. If you appear in content uploaded to ClipYA and hold an account, you consent to your likeness appearing in ClipYA's marketing on the same terms.

Location pins and secret spots
We read GPS from your files when it is there, and you can drop or move the pin by hand. Every upload picks one of three precision levels:
- Exact pin — the break name and the pin, for well-known named breaks. - City level — the pin is rounded to roughly 10 km and the clip shows the region instead of the break. This is the right default for anything quiet. - Hidden — region only. No pin on any map. The coordinates stay visible to you alone.
Don't blow up somebody's secret spot. If a break isn't already well known, use City level or Hidden. Locals can request a takedown of a pin on a quiet break and we act on those quickly.
Followed breaks and swell alerts
Following a break stores the break name and its public coordinates against your account so we can notify you about new clips, sessions and events there. Swell alerts fetch a public marine forecast (Open-Meteo) for that break's coordinates; nothing about you is sent to the forecast provider.
Images and watermarks
Every full-size view is stamped with the handle of the account that opened it. That stamp exists to deter redistribution and to trace leaks. It means an image you have viewed can be linked back to your account if it turns up elsewhere.
We use your address for password resets, tag approvals, receipts and sale notices. We do not run a marketing list. Email is sent through Gmail SMTP.
Cookies
A session cookie keeps you signed in. A second cookie gives signed-out visitors an anonymous id so image links can be signed. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are set.
How long we keep things
Account data until you delete your account. Purchase records for seven years, because tax law requires it. Impression history for 72 hours.
Your rights
Ask us and we will export everything we hold on you, correct anything wrong, or delete your account and its data. Deleting a photographer account removes the images; purchased licenses survive so buyers keep what they paid for.
